⚫︎STORY

KULKUL – The Voice of the Make-Up Field is a makeup gear brand born from the real voices of professional hair and makeup artists working on set.

Our very first product was a rain cover designed to protect makeup bags on rainy filming days.

In 2018, while working on a shoot in Sweden, I met a local hair and makeup artist whose professionalism and love for tools deeply inspired me.
She introduced me to a product I had never seen in Japan — a dedicated rain cover for makeup bags used in the field.
When I used it, I instantly felt the difference: I could move more freely, my tools stayed dry, and my mood lifted.
That small sense of joy ended up elevating the quality of my work.

The word “KUL” means “fun” in Swedish.
We named the brand KULKUL to reflect the idea that “when your tools are well-organized, work becomes more enjoyable — and you become someone you’re proud of.”

More than anything, KULKUL has been shaped together with fellow hair and makeup artists.
Through conversations like,
“Wouldn’t it be great if we had something like this?”
“If we changed this part, it’d be so much easier to use!” —
we’ve created tools in collaboration with the voices of the field.
That process itself is as exciting and rewarding as working on set.

By the way, that original rain cover from Sweden?
It’s still carefully stored in my closet.
Even though it’s worn out, it’s a cherished reminder of KULKUL’s beginning — and the moment this journey started.

KULKUL is a brand that continues to grow and evolve with the field.
We will keep delivering makeup gear that fulfills both your professional pride and your passion for the work.

With love from the field,
Miho Araki, Director of KULKUL
